Demonstrators burned photographs of Barack Obama today as they protested against America’s inaction over Gaza.
Dozens of people gathered in Tehran waving Palestinian flags and defacing and setting fire to images of the President-elect.

Amirahmadi is the president of Middle Eastern Studies in Rutgers. Two Executed by Stoning, as a Third Escapes

The stonings contradict an official claim that Iranian authorities had put an end to the practice, a form of capital punishment considered barbaric by the international community. On 5 August 2008, Iranian Judiciary spokesperson Alireza Jamshidi claimed that all stoning sentences had been stopped and the punishment would no longer be carried out.



27 Terms of Censure from Education for 17 Students in Shiraz University

Charges are : Insulting the national and Islamic symbols and actions that are considered to be against the regime of the Islamic Republic”. All students had been called before the disciplinary committee for their role in the gatherings held on December 6th and 8th in Shiraz University.



Banning of Afghanis’ residents in Iran from studying in Iranian universities

Carlos Zaccagnini, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), criticized the decision by the Iranian government and demanded its repeal. Mr. Zaccagnini said: “Refugees in Iran are entitled to education until high school, and many of them have even completed their higher education in Iran, which is commendable.
