An Iranian woman has pleaded guilty to teaching English to members of a terror group that wants to overthrow Tehran‘s despotic government.
While her goals may not be out of line with what’s in the interests of America and her allies, the group she was aiding is on the list of terror organizations.
Zenaib Taleb-Jedi, 53, also admitted she translated documents in Iraq for the group – the Mjuahedin-e Khalq.
She pleaded guilty to supplying “services” to the resistance group, and the feds dropped the far more serious charge of supplying “material support” to a terrorist group, which carried a possible term of 15 years in prison.
Under the plea deal, she faces a maximum of two years behind bars, but could get off with no prison time at all.
Federal prosecutors had argued that teaching English to members of the group was serious because would-be terrorists would be able “to read English-language bomb-making instruction manuals no matter what she intended when she provided her services as an English teacher,” according to court papers.
Defense lawyers Justine Harris and Florian Miedel declined to comment on the plea deal. Taleb-Jedi is free on $500,000 bail and lives in a Manhattan SRO.
