A letter from PAIC’s President to Ban Ki-Moon

May 14th, 2010

His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon

The United Nations Secretary General

Secretariat Building,

U.N. Plaza New York, NY. 10017

May 12, 2010

Dear Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon:

We, at the Progressive American Iranian Committee (PAIC), are extremely concerned about the current wave of execution of political prisoners of conscience in Iran, as evidenced by the latest five detainees, Frazad Kamangar, Ali Heidarian, Farhad Vakili and Mehdi Eslamian and Shirin Alamhouli, hanged on Sunday 9th of May 2010 in the notorious Evin prison.

The Islamic regime since its inception 31 years ago, in order to consolidate power and survive, has routinely created international tension and crises to divert international attention from its brutality, and at the same time, has hidden behind the international crises to rationalize its lingering failing domestic socio-economic, cultural and political policies and its international diplomatic failures. IRI has once again resorted to some of the harshest repressive tactics used in 1980s; killing political prisoners, curtailing freedoms of assembly, press, especially  women’s rights and the rights of religious and ethnic minorities. As we approach last June’s fraudulent presidential elections, the regime is killing prisoners of conscience to create a more terror environment to scare the public and silence the freedom loving and liberty seeking people of Iran, in the dire hope of holding its iron grips over the people of Iran.

PAIC, a human rights organization, vehemently condemns unequivocally the Islamic regime for its gross violations of human rights  of the Iranian people.

Dear Secretary General, we ask  the UN to leverage all necessary measures to hold the rulers of Iran accountable for such violations and mass executions of dissidents and demand freedom of  all political prisoners in Iran before it too late.

Respectfully

Siavash Abghari, Ph.D. President

Progressive American Iranian Committee
