Presidential Election and the Iranian Community
Nov 2nd, 2008The final day before the American presidential election has arrived. On November 4th, the American people with different backgrounds and races will cast their votes to send their next president to the White House.
The Iranian community, like other minority groups, has been closely watching the heated competition between the Democratic and the Republican Candidates.
It is a great opportunity for the Iranian-Americans to get involved in this democratic process but it is also equally important for us to monitor and review both candidates’ policies and the effects of such policies on our homeland Iran.
Unfortunately, the US disconcerted policies towards Iran and the profoundly mistaken hope to find a so called moderate leader in Tehran has emboldened the clerical rule and has consolidated its web of influence in the US. Consequently, The Iranian lobby machine has extended its penetration within the US politics and has been successful to a greater extent to mislead the public opinion and influence the US Congress.
Hopefully, with the new president, tougher policies will be implemented against Mullahs’ ambitions. We, the Iranian Americans can play a decisive role to confront the Mullahs’ lobby. We must make a concerted effort to raise the awareness of the American public to the Human Rights situation in Iran, stop the Mullahs’ nuclear ambitions and prevent their domination of the Middle East.
