The situation of human rights in Iran will be reviewed at the 7th session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nation Human Rights Council (UNHRC), between February 15-17, 2010.
Coinciding with the UPR session, “UPR-Iran 2010 Action Group”– a network of local and international human rights organizations and activists — will be holding a protest in front of the United Nations’ offices in Geneva in order to highlight the widespread and persistent violations of human rights in Iran.
Noting the escalation of state-sanctioned violence, and the threat of execution against civic activists, we invite all human rights defenders and victims of human rights abuse in Iran to attend these gatherings and to voice their demands.
Our demands of the United Nation Human Rights Council are as follows:
1. To condemn state-sponsored violence, torture, rape, execution and other forms of human rights violations in Iran
2. To demand the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners
3. To call for freedom of association and expression
4. To dispatch a group of delegates to inspect the condition of prisons and prisoners in Iran
5. To initiate an investigation to identify those responsible for massive human-rights abuses; and to bring them before the International Criminal Court by a referral of the UN Security Council
6. To re-establish a special body for monitoring the human rights situation in Iran
